Learning through play

Back to Homepage

At our nurseries we provide a happy secure and stimulating environment and value each child as an individual. When children are happy and settled they have fun as they learn.

Within the Nurseries we provide a full varied curriculum using the nationally approved framework for learning and development and care called the Early years Foundation Stage. This framework is designed for children aged from birth to 5 years old. It builds on the child's individual learning and development from birth. Thus aiming to give children the best possible start in life, enabling them to achieve the five 'Every Child Matters' outcomes. These outcomes are -

Be healthy

Stay safe

Enjoy and achieve

Make a positive contribution

Achieve economic well being

This is achieved by working within the nationally approved Early Learning Goals (E.LG). These are divided into a child's six areas of development and learning, which are as follows-
1 - Personal, Social and Emotional
2- Communication, Language and Literacy
3- Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
4- Creative
5- Knowledge and Understanding Of the World
6- Physical

During your child's time at nursery they will experience a combination of planned activities and free play to encourage their independence and social development. Through activities, conservation and practical example they learn acceptable ways to express their own feelings and to have respect for the feelings of others.
In both small and large groups, children are encouraged to extend their vocabulary and fluency by talking, listening, hearing and responding to stories, songs and rhymes.

By means of adult supported practical experience, children become familiar with the sorting, matching, ordering, sequencing and counting activities, which form the basis of early mathematics. As they use their developing mathematical understanding to solve practical problems, children are assisted to learn and use the vocabulary of mathematics, identifying objects by shape, position, size, volume and number. Songs, games and picture books help children to become aware of number sequences and when they are ready to use simple mathematical operations such as adding.

A safe and stimulating environment allows children to explore and experiment with a wider range of natural and manufactured materials. They learn to observe the features of objects and substances, recognizing differences, patterns and similarities, and to share and record their findings. Children are assisted in exploring and understanding their environment, both within the group and also the wider community. Activities such as cooking, woodwork, use of computer, roamer, geo-safari and tape recorder enables the children to extend their technological understandings.

Creative areas are provided for art, craft and messy play. This gives the child the opportunity the experiment and extends their imagination. The children experience music and drama regularly.
Large equipment including climbing frames, rope bridges, A-frames and sports equipment aid gross motor skills and co-ordination. Children will develop their fine motor skills through using tools including various writing materials, construction toys and threading.

The activities extend to the outside classroom to encourage a broad based curriculum. The Early Years Foundation Stage places a great emphasis on the outdoor environment. The Nursery recognizes the positive impact on children's sense of well being and benefits on all aspects of child's development.

Then Nursery has achieved the EEL (Effective Early Learning) quality assurance scheme from Worcester University. This scheme has been endorsed by investors in children.

We are inspected by ofsted who look at the safety, care and educational program provided. Copies of this report for each Nursery are held on individual Nursery pages.
